Action/Event Planning: The Action/Event Planning Committee strategizes and executes union actions and events such as rallies and town halls.

Solidarity: The Solidarity Committee builds connections and fosters solidarity with organizations and unions on campus, in the New Mexico community, nationally, and internationally. We are involved in multiple coalitions including the Coalition of Student Employee Unions (CSEU) and the UNM Student Solidarity Coalition, and the UNM/UNMH Campus Union Coalition.

Comms & Media: The Comms & Media Committee works specifically to engage in external and internal communications on behalf of UGW. Our committee members monitor and create content for UGW’s social media presence on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Our committee also works with local reporters and other press sources to give commentary on UGW events or proceedings. Our members also create the UGW newsletter and correspond with GPSA on their email updates to add UGW information.

Political Action: The Political Action Committee builds political connections and seeks political endorsements. We do outreach to elected officials, with a focus on legislators.

Research: The Research Committee collaborates with other committees like Comms & Media to research and streamline information pertinent to our working conditions and our organizing efforts. This committee designed and maintains data from the bargaining survey and recently compiled some of that data for a report for the public. We have also been working on projects that support strategic political networking. Our projects range from chronicling current events and mapping political networks to processing quantitative data and looking over audits and budgets.

International Students: The International Students Committee (ISC) works to address the specific needs of international grad workers. We foster the inclusion of non-citizen grad workers in organizing efforts and strive to communicate their unique perspective outward. We have a core membership of international grad workers and our committee welcomes anyone with interest in outreach and membership, communicating with UNM and external organizations, or general organizing tasks such as public speaking.

Membership: The membership committee is concerned with recruiting new union members and activating people - getting them to participate in events and/or to join the organizing committee or one of our working committees. We do this, amongst others, by preparing onboarding materials for new members, and by coordinating our system of stewards, who are the first line of communication between the organizing committee and grad workers in each department. We also strategize on how to increase participation in underrepresented departments, and support the organizing committee in outreach work meetings by providing, for example, email scripts and departmental lists of grad workers.
