PHS Aviation Enrollment 23-24
We are excited to announce we will offer the "You Can Fly" curriculum for incoming freshman beginning this fall for the 2023-24 academic school year. I've copied below a brief description of the program and the possible pathways offered. Purcell High School will currently offer the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) pathway. Students will have an opportunity to begin a path that ultimately leads to a commercial license to operate drones.

Students enrolling in this course should plan on continuing this program for the four full years of high school. Due to the 4 year nature of the program we are currently only admitting incoming freshman. Students and parents of incoming freshmen (class of 2027) will need to complete the brief form below to sign-up for a spot in the program. The course for the upcoming year will be limited to a max of 20 students. We will consider enrolling upcoming sophomores if our enrollment numbers for incoming freshmen are lower than expected.
This course is part of our ongoing effort to provide students enhanced STEM opportunities and more hands-on learning experiences.

Please email Jason Sanders, High School Principal, if you have additional questions:

Please read the description of the program below:

Recognizing the need for a skilled workforce in the aerospace and aviation industry, the Aeronautics Commission is working to support Oklahoma high schools interested in offering aviation curriculum developed by the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association (AOPA). The four year, “You Can Fly” curriculum is offered free to schools committed to providing high quality aviation STEM pathways for students.

The AOPA curriculum program consists of two pathways, the pilot pathway and the UAS pathway. Schools may choose to implement one or both. The difficulty of the course work increases each consecutive year, building upon the knowledge required to become a private pilot or Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) pilot.
