The Quebec Government is making composting mandatory across the province. The municipality could lose funding if we do not implement composting practices. We are happy to announce that a study on the efficiency of waste management was done by the MRC for all municipalities in the Pontiac and the Municipality of Litchfield has placed #2 out of 18 municipalities. The fact that we have already implemented composting at the transfer site has contributed to this rating and therefore we will keep our funding for 2018. However, we are required to provide documented data on the percentage of residents that compost, either at the transfer site or at home. We must prove the percentage which is required (2016 – 30%, 2017-50% and 2018-70%) of households in Litchfield that compost. Therefore we are including a survey that we ask each household to complete and send back to us. You may also complete the on-line survey on the municipal website
www.litchfield-qc.ca. It is very important to complete the survey in order for the municipality to gather the documented data. This will help ensure that we continue to have an acceptable rating and maintain government funding of our costs related to waste management. Good waste management practices along with COMPOSTING not only reduces the cost to the municipality, it SAVES YOU MONEY!!
