Oceanport Paddle Club’s Shrewsbury River Cleanup and SEA Paddle NYC @ OPC Charity Paddle

Cleanup: 9AM-1PM (The Charity Paddle should begin shortly after the cleanup)

Volunteers can help in one or more of the following ways..
  • Bringing your own vessel (kayak, SUP or other to collect debris on the water)
  • Renting a complimentary OPC vessel to use for collecting debris in the water
  • Traveling to specific locations on land along the Shrewsbury and collecting (Maps will be provided when you check-in)
  • By volunteering your professional photography and/or video recording services.

Here are some of the statistics of the 2021 cleanup.
  • 140 Volunteers
  • 12 Sponsors
  • 32 Paddleboarders collecting trash
  • 27 Kayaks collecting trash
  • 14 accessible locations for road crews
  • 17 vehicle road crews (driving to locations in Oceanport and Little Silver)
  • 12 miles of Shrewsbury River shoreline cleaned
  • 30 cubic yards of trash collected (which was all recycled thanks to Mazza Recycling’s generous donation).
In 2023 we plan on doubling our efforts and expanding to locations in Long Branch and Monmouth Beach. We need your help in order to do this!

Following the cleanup, OPC will be endorsing a Paddleboard race, The SEA Paddle NYC at OPC,  organized and run by Surfers’ Environmental Alliance (SEA).  More info on the race and organization is available at seasurfer.org.
