In 3-10 sentences, answer the following prompts. What is your motivation for wanting to be an undergraduate research assistant in the HAMMER Lab? What do you hope to get out of it and how will this help you with your future career?
Is there anything else you think we should know about you?
Please email Dr. Hammer (firstname.lastname@example.org) an APA-style research paper that is at least 3 pages in length and includes a reference list at the end. He wants to get a sense of the quality of your academic writing by looking at this writing sample.
How likely is it that you would want to stay on as an RA in the lab for at least one additional semester with us? (Note: this is not required, we just want to know your best guess, as this helps us with planning.)
Dr. Hammer will acknowledge your submitted application by replying back to the email you sent him (that had your writing sample attached). If you do not hear from us in the next 5 business days, please email Dr. Hammer at
to inquire about the status of your application.
We start reviewing applications around March 20 and October 20 of each year, though we continue to review applications submitted after these dates until we have filled all available RA positions. The strongest applicants will be invited to a 30-minute internship interview. Keep an eye out for an email from us in the weeks following the aforementioned dates regarding whether you will be granted an interview or not.
