For students entering Grades 6-8.
3-Day Workshop: Tuesday—Thursday, July 11-132:00 pm — 4:00 pm
Have you ever imagined what it would be like if you woke up and everything was gone? We mean everything: the trees, your family, the store down the street. As cheerful as that is not, dystopian and post-apocalyptic fiction—those kinds of stories—are hugely popular and hugely fun to write. In this workshop, we’ll look at some of the best examples of dystopian and post-apocalyptic fiction in order to create our own. Why do writers set their stories in these worlds? How do these settings reinforce the plot, characters, and theme? And why are we drawn to them? After these inspirational studies, we'll run wild with our own ideas to try to replicate what the masters do.
