Electoral Reforms India needs can transform the quality of politicians who get into positions of power and the government made more responsive to people's voices. Can we do it? That depends upon what we want. 1. Apart from high-tech reforms, there are urgent forms described in the abovementioned blog that donot cost anything. Only modifications in rules are required to be voted in the Parliament - these can be done immediately if there is a political will. In any case, it is worth building public opinion so that Government may consider making these reforms before 2024 elections.

2. There are high-tech election reforms like anytime-anywhere online voting system and referendums. These will require investment in building systems and making contractual arrangements with different agencies to facilitate voting. Can these reforms be put in place during 2024-29?

4. (F1.1) Candidate Expenses cap should be removed (remember that Political Party expenses are NOT capped; a candidate having only white money is placed at a tremendous disadvantage, unless s/he has a party doing surrogate spending)

5. (F1.2) Political Funding should be made 100% transparent - with full disclosure of ALL donations AND also Donor's particulars (if donations above a certain amount)

6. (F1.3) State funding and resources support must be provided to contestants - debates - free channel time - YouTube

7. (T2.1) Candidate affidavits and challenges (specific complaints) should be allowed - ECI should be empowered to investigate and required to publish status of findings

8. (T2.2) Political Party functioning transparency - bring under purview of RTI Act - Manifesto mandatory - allow ECI audit of party's practices vs. its published constitutional framework

9. (O1) Online voting - mandate Aadhaar linking with Voter ID system

10. (O1) Should we plan for online voting during 2024-2029

11. (O1) After introducing online voting, we should modify the FPTP system and go for other forms of elections
