As part of the Virginia Western family, we know better than anyone that our students need more than a place to start - they need a reason backed with tangible help and hope. They need support, risk abeyance, and opportunity. What’s stopping them also stops our communities from better times ahead. Moving forward is essential for us all.
1. Virginia Western’s Community College Access Program
The promise of up to 3 years of tuition for eligible high school graduates is needed now more than ever, as nationwide up to 30% of high school graduates are falling through the cracks. 24% of area high school graduates come to Virginia Western. 43% are in CCAP. And CCAP students succeed.
2. Virginia Western Rapids Response Student Emergency Fund
Help our students in crisis— those now facing dire employment, housing, food, medical or technology needs. Response time occurs in as little as 24-48 hours. Before the pandemic, we served 2-3 students in need per semester. More than 180 students have needed and received critical support since March 2020.
3. Virginia Western Student Co-op, fueled by Kroger
Students shouldn’t have to choose between food and their education.
It is estimated that 30-50% of community college students are food insecure. Our students, right here, right now.
4. The Virginia Western Forward Endowment Fund: a vision of Dr. Charles W. Steger, Jr.
Build permanent, flexible and visionary support of the College now and always.
