Delta teaching fellows build out content that is accessible and emphasizes fundamental concepts required for responsible practice of machine learning. We teach all over the world, with previous programs in Nairobi, Kenya and Agadir Morocco. Fellows are not required to travel internationally (we have plenty to do here in the Bay Area)! However, each year some fellows choose to relocate to teach communities all over the world.
Want to learn more before you apply? We include common FAQ below. If you still have questions, or want to know what we worked on last year visit: http://www.deltanalytics.org/machine-learning-for-good.html
What are the different areas I can contribute to as a Delta teaching fellow?Delta teaching fellows: 1) contribute to new curriculum development (theory and Python code) 2) expand upon existing content 3) work to make content as accessible as possible 4) teach in person in the Bay Area and internationally.
How do we choose our partners? We choose partners who are known in the local community and learning ecosystem. Our partners allow us to expand our course internationally and at home locally in the Bay Area and support our mission of building technical capacity around the world. In 2018, we expect to work with 3 partner organizations. Two will be international, and one will be local to the Bay Area. Our commitments internationally last 4-6 weeks and require teaching fellows to relocate full time for the duration of the course.
Where will I teach? Most of our teaching fellows develop curriculum and teach locally in the Bay Area. Much of what determines where you teach depends upon your personal availability and interest as well as the needs of our local partners.
Will there be financial support for fellows traveling to teach with international partners?Yes, we are committed to covering basic costs (accommodation and transportation) for international teaching fellows.
What is the expected time commitment for the teaching fellowship? This varies considerably depending on whether you decide to teach internationally full time for 4-6 weeks or donate your time in the Bay Area. For most fellows, the commitment will not exceed 5-6h a week. This 5-6h estimate includes a required attendance of one hackathon a month in person in San Francisco from January to June 2019. The hackathon will be scheduled on a Saturday each month between 10 am and 3 pm.
