Please fill out and submit this application by  April 16, 2018.
Summer Institute participants must attend a public school in New York City, and be twelve to seventeen years old, and not have graduated from high school.  The application process consists of a simple written application, and attendance at a one-hour session in late spring at The Performing Garage with the Director of the Institute , and the other applicants, where we play games, and talk about the Institute.

The Summer Institute typically accepts twelve students. Participants are invited to return every year until they graduate from high school (unless asked to leave the Institute for issues of attendance or disruptive behavior). Applicants are selected based on the program's needs and selection is made with thoughtful consideration of the group dynamic and attention to diversity. Creating a balanced group may change from year to year based on who returns from the previous summer. We especially seek students who do not have access to strong arts programming in their schools.

Some students' family income makes them eligible to receive free or reduced-price meals at school through federal or state programs like the National School Lunch Program, or the School Breakfast Program.
For instance, a family of 4 with an annual income of less than $32,000 qualifies; guidelines here: http://bit.ly/2oEvEU2.

The Summer Institute provides free lunch to everyone in the spirit of sharing a communal meal. However, it is helpful information for us to know if your family qualifies.

Students who miss a day for any reason other than illness may be asked to leave the program.
Mandatory meeting *
As a part of the application process, all applicants attend a one-hour group informational meeting, on either Thursday, April 19 at 6PM, or Sunday, April 22 at 10AM,  with other student applicants and the Director of the Institute. We talk about what the program is like and play theater games. This allows the students to determine if they are interested in the program and gives us an opportunity to evaluate the applicants. The meeting is at our theater, The Performing Garage, 33 Wooster Street in Manhattan. Please indicate which day/time is preferable for you to attend this mandatory meeting.
Do you have any special dietary needs or restrictions? *
Local restaurants donate lunch daily for our program, and can accommodate basic needs like vegetarian, dairy-free, no nuts.
If you are accepted, and need a Metrocard to get to and from the Institute, we will provide one.  Would you need one? *
Is there anything else you would like to share, or questions you would like to ask?
Any challenges you might face in coming to this program? Any hobbies or activities you enjoy? Why you are interested in this program? Or send us a story you wrote, or anything at all. We'd love to get to know you a bit.
