The NYSYLC is an undocumented youth led organization organizing in our community for change. 2019 marks the 10th year the NYSYLC Scholarship Awards Program will provide monetary support to students, regardless of their immigration status, who aspire to continue their higher education, be active in the immigrant rights movement, and wish to continue their commitment in the upcoming years. Priority for this scholarship will be given to students with limited or no means to obtain financial aid for college. Priority will also be given to students without Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or other forms of immigration relief. Awardees will be selected based on community involvement, financial need, and commitment to the immigrant rights movement. A small emphasis will be placed on academic achievement. Recipients will be required to complete volunteer hours at NYSYLC throughout the summer. The scholarship award will be given to the recipient in the form of a check or sent directly to the school depending on the student’s needs.
Awards range from $500 - $1000
-Residing in NYC;-Be a graduating high school senior, have a High School or GED/HSE/TASC™ diploma and planning to attend college in the Spring; OR current undergraduate student;-Be actively engaged, or wishes to be engaged, in social justice causes;-Be recommended by an educator, peer, community member, or faith leader;-Be able to volunteer 40-80 hours with the NYSYLC throughout the summer;-Be able to attend the awards ceremony in NYC (details TBD).
