WIT Improvapalooza 2022 Show Submission
**NOTE: Show submissions are due at 11:59pm ET on Tuesday July 5th, 2022. We know y'all love to procrastinate, but, for real. Get your submissions in on time. For real.**

After a 3-year hiatus (booooo!), Improvapalooza is back, baby! (YAY!!!!!!) Affectionately known as Palooza, Washington Improv Theater’s (WIT) annual festival features innovative and unique new shows from hundreds of improvisers, created by students, teachers, newer improvisers, and seasoned veterans of the improv community alike. We’re looking for creative and fun new ideas and formats—not your usual play or stuff we see at most shows. Use this form to submit your unique, innovative, even wacky, ideas before the deadline!

For more information, guidelines, or if you have questions, please refer to our Improvapalooza 2022 FAQ here: https://tinyurl.com/exmys2cx. Submissions Mentors are here to answer your questions at palooza@witdc.org.

COVID-19 note: We understand that COVID-19 is an ever changing scenario. Keeping our community safe is our No.1 priority, and while we are planning to proceed with Improvapalooza, that could change as things get closer. As a reminder, all performers, teachers, students, audience members, staff and volunteers must provide proof of being fully vaccinated (including booster) against COVID-19. Please be sure to review WIT's COVID safety policies at: https://witdc.org/covidsafety/

CONTACT INFORMATION
Who is the point of contact for this show? *
First and last name, please (e.g., “Linden Ashby”). (hint: this is probably you!)
What is the point of contact's phone number? *
Use the format "(XXX) XXX-XXXX". And make sure the number belongs to the person from the previous question—it would be so, so awkward if we called Josie thinking it was Linden.
What email address should we use to get in touch about this show? *
SHOW INFORMATION
What's the title of this show? *
List the title exactly as you'd like it printed in the program (e.g., “Real-World Melrose Place”). If this show will be performed by an existing team, please include the name of your team as part of the title of your show (e.g., if your team is named Darren Star Productions, title your show “Darren Star Productions Presents: Real-World Melrose Place”). Make sure to spell the title of your show correctly and consistently—with hundreds of submissions each year, we rely on spreadsheets and search functions to organize submissions.
What's your show's concept and format? What can we expect to see on stage? *
The richer the description, the better we'll understand what you're going for—just keep it under 100 words. Ideally, information we would like to know includes 1) What the get is (if applicable), 2) how the show will play out, and 3) what facet of improv/bit it is playing with. Feel free to use inside-baseball terminology for this one. Example: “The audience gives each character a *secret* confession, then our cast of eight people plays characters from Melrose Place who are all living together in a group house. The format is a real-time monoscene focused on strong character deals and plays with genre moves. Every two minutes, someone gets slapped or reveals a confession OR BOTH?.”
How would you describe your show to non-improvisers? *
Give us a quick, tweet-length description that we can use to advertise your show to the general public. It helps to use action verbs. Example: “See what happens when the cast of Melrose Place stops being polite and starts getting real.”
What's your show rated? *
How much time would you ideally like for your set? *
What are the doable lengths for your set? *
Although not ideal, you could be successful with this amount of time. Check all that apply, including your response from the previous question.
Required
How does your show further Palooza's core values of inclusion and innovation (https://tinyurl.com/ymwwupmd)? *
Inclusion can mean having a wide variety of experience levels, backgrounds, or perspectives. This is the time to play with improvisers you may not normally have shows with. Innovation may mean creating an entirely new format or show theme, or figuring out a new way to interpret an old format. If this submission is for a blind-casting show, an existing team, or a current WIT class, please include that information here.
PERFORMER INFORMATION
What kind of group will perform this show? *
How many people will perform this show? *
Who will perform this show? *
List both first and last name for each performer, comma-separated, alphabetically by last name (e.g., “Linden Ashby, Josie Bissett, Thomas Calabro”). List only CONFIRMED performers—your show may be disqualified if you list unconfirmed cast members. Triple-check your spelling, as this is how the cast list will appear on the WIT website. If this is a submission for a blind-casting show, note that instead.
BLIND CASTING INFORMATION
If this submission is meant for blind casting, please fill in the below questions. If this submission is not meant for blind casting, skip this section.
What are you looking for in cast members?
Include any skills people might need to participate in the show, and any physical mobility required. If anyone can participate, leave this blank. Example: “ Looking for improvisers who have been doing improv for at least six months. Willingness to play heightened emotions required. Ability to cry on command a plus.”
Will cast members need to meet to practice before the day of the show?

EXISTING TEAM-SPECIFIC QUESTIONS
If this submission is on behalf of an existing team, please fill this section in. If it's not on behalf of an existing team, skip this section.
What's your team's name?
How does this show differ from your team's usual format?
We're looking for people to take risks, push boundaries, expand horizons—all that stuff. Teams that do not vary from their usual act will not be accepted into Improvapalooza 2022.
If your team, troupe, or act is based outside of the DC metro region, where are you based?
e.g., “West Hollywood, California”
If your team, troupe, or act is based outside the DC metro area, what's a link to a video we can watch to get to know you?
Make sure that we can view the link (e.g., a YouTube video can't be listed as private — it must be unlisted or public).
AVAILABILITY
Is the cast available to perform on Monday August 22nd (7:30pm–11:30pm)? *
Is the cast available to perform on Wednesday August 24th (7:30pm–11:30pm)? *
Is the cast available to perform on Thursday August 25th (7:30pm–11:30pm)? *
Is the cast available to perform on Friday August 26th (7:30pm–11:30pm)? *
Is the cast available to perform in the late-night block on Friday night August 26th 2022 (11:30pm-2:30am)? *
Would you like to be considered for a 5-10 minute slot in the late-night block on Friday night August 26th 2022 (11:30pm-2:30am)? *
The late-night block runs from about 11:30pm to about 2:30am, and is Palooza's dedicated space for shows that are extra out there, and maybe not as family-friendly. Read more about them in our FAQ (linked at the top of this form).

Is the cast available to perform in the evening block on Sunday August 28th (4:00pm–8:00pm)? *
Have you confirmed that the full cast is available on these dates? *
If your show is accepted and scheduled for a slot you list above, but the cast isn't able to make it, your spot could be forfeited!
SHOW NEEDS
What technical needs, such as lighting, music or AV, does this show have? *
Example: "Please play the Melrose Place theme song as we walk on—we'll share it via Spotify". If you have no tech needs, please indicate that.
What other needs, such as set-up and/or clean-up time, does this show have? *
PLEASE be realistic with your setup and cleanup time. If your show calls for jumping in a barrel of organic spaghetti sauce, don't put 30 seconds just because you think it will look better—we're much more likely to accept your show if you give us an honest account of how long it takes you to clean up said sauce, because when shows go over, it takes promised time away from the shows after them. If your act has an accompanist, include their setup and cleanup time as well. Example: "Someone will be doing spit takes after every pregnancy announcement, so we'll need some time to clean up the water. Setup time: none; cleanup time: 2 minutes." If you have no setup or cleanup, or needs, please indicate that.
Do you pinky-swear that you gave an accurate number for your setup and cleanup time in the previous question, and that you will clean up any and all mess your show creates? *
If you haven't noticed, this is really, REALLY important to us.
PRIORITY
Is this submission your top choice? *
If we can only accept one of your submissions, we'll pick this one, unless it's inappropriate for Palooza or a near-clone of someone else's top choice. By answering “Yes”, you agree to only select this option for one submission.
RECORD-KEEPING
Performers understand that proof of vaccination is mandatory for all performers participating in Palooza. Our group agrees that every performer is fully vaccinated (including booster shot), and that proof of vaccine will be required prior to entering WIT. *
Note: If this is a blind casting show, you only need to make this promise for yourself.
Our group understands that performers should stay home if they are not feeling well. *
Note: If this is a blind casting show, you only need to make this promise for yourself.
Have you made a note of the details of your submission so you don't forget about it? *
It's crucial that you keep track of all your submissions, including show title, concept, cast, and availability, so that you don't accidentally schedule a meeting about an exciting new business venture when you told us you could perform.
Is there anything else you want us to know about this submission?
A copy of your responses will be emailed to the address you provided.
