NZIODA Membership Survey
January 2019/20 New Zealand International Optimist Dingy Association Survey.

This survey seeks to obtain feedback from the Optimist Association members on current performance, upcoming decisions that will effect the class and the future direction of the Optimist sailor selection and regattas that the class may attend.

Besides administering to the association on behalf of its sailors the NZIODA committee is regularly faced with dilemmas of how to resolve ongoing issues like, creating easy and low cost access to the class or information about Opti participation. In addition, we are aware of the polarized debates that arise out of current ranking system and numbers of Travelling Teams.

Such dilemmas are not exclusive to this sport. Contemporary forms of leisure have changed drastically, time seems more precious and the effects of social media often serve only to polarize opinions. Sadly, in recent years there are clear indications such issues are discouraging families and children from entering or continuing in sports activities, effects also felt within our association.

Of course as sailors we share particular passions about this sport. More than that we believe sailing and our Opti is the doorway to a life time of participation. In this way your committee wish to better understand what binds us together and what the Committee can do to make our association stronger. Below is the first set of five questions that we hope will lead us to the next and so on. Our intention over the the next year is to continuously improve and refine our understanding of how we can serve our sport better.

We know your time is precious as you are already busy looking after your sailors, but we know you really care about these issues. So have your say, make your voice heard.

Many thanks
Your Committee
