Hi! We are part of Scout, a student-led design collective at Northeastern University investigating Boston housing and how to make it better. We are collaborating with the Mayor’s Housing Innovation Lab to understand property owner interest in homesharing (where a property owner rents out a room in their home) in Boston.

In the context of Boston’s high-cost housing market, homesharing can unlock affordable housing opportunities in areas that might otherwise be cost-prohibitive, where one can achieve a greater quality of life by living closer to where they work and play while having the ability to save money and achieve one's financial goals.

The Housing Innovation Lab's prior work on homesharing revealed that there were more people looking for an affordable room to rent than there were homeowners interested in renting out a room in their home. We are distributing this survey to homeowners to understand why this is the case.

Your participation will help us better understand your experiences and opinions about homesharingso we can better serve both current and prospective Boston residents. We hope you will consider completing this brief survey to the best of your ability to help us create accurate and helpful research!

Your personal information and responses will not be shared externally. Thank you for your time!
