Parent Code of Conduct Pledge - St. Joseph Parish CYO
I hereby pledge to provide positive support, care and encouragement for my child and other children participating in St. Joseph CYO youth sports by following this Parent Code of Conduct:

• I will ensure academics remain the focus of my child’s life.
• I will arrange transportation to and from all practices and events for my child.
• I accept responsibility for timely fee payment and completion of the required pre-participation forms.
• I will consider my child’s commitment to team practices and games when planning and scheduling personal and family calendars.
• I will properly maintain and promptly return St. Joseph issued uniforms at the end of each season.
• I will attend all parent meetings as requested by the coach or athletic director.

• I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all student-athletes, coaches and officials at every game, practice and other youth sports event.
• I will support coaches and officials working with my child, in order to encourage growth in a positive and safe environment.
• I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, tobacco and alcohol and will refrain from their use at all youth sports events.
• I will ask my child to treat other student-athletes, coaches, fans and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, creed, or ability.
• I will not take to social media to criticize or complain of my child's coach, team, school (St. Joseph or sponsoring school), parish (St. Joseph or sponsoring parish) or CYO and their employees.
• I will follow all health and safety guidelines outlined by CYO and St. Joseph Parish.

• I understand that inappropriate conduct or disrespect toward coaches, student-athletes, officials, site personnel and other involved in CYO athletics will not be tolerated.
• I will never openly or maliciously criticize, badger, harass or threaten a referee or official. I, along with any guest of mine, will refrain from any vulgar, lewd, obscene, or abusive language or gestures, including yelling criticism at the referees while watching any team event, home or away.
• I will remember that the game is for youth - not adults. I will do my very best to make youth sports fun for my child. I will allow the coaches to do their job and not coach my child from the sideline.

• I understand participation rules are clearly outlined by CYO by sport and grade level and can be accessed on CYO’s website. However, I understand that a coach reserves the right to not play a student-athlete based on unexcused absences from team activities or poor conduct. It is the coach’s responsibility to notify the parent of these infractions when they occur. I will not approach coach(es) about playing time or coaching decisions until at least 24 hours after the game.
• I understand it is the policy of the St. Joseph Athletic Association that in the event of a sports-related dispute or disagreement, I should first attempt to resolve the issue with the coach. If the grievance cannot be resolved at this level, I should bring the problem to the attention of the Athletic Director. It is the responsibility of the Athletic Director to investigate the grievance and determine the resolution, consulting with the Parish Administrator (Pastor) if necessary.
