BIPOC Vendor Fund at the Pittsfield Farmers Market
Roots Rising and the Berkshire Black Economic Council have partnered to present the BIPOC Vendor Fund at the Pittsfield Farmers Market!

Roots Rising is committed to fostering inclusive participation in the movement towards a just and sustainable food system. To that end we are excited to announce this fund to support BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) farmers and entrepreneurs.

Through this fund, Roots Rising recognizes that there are institutional barriers that farmers of color have endured for centuries. From discriminatory practices at the USDA to unequal access to credit, land and resources due to systemic racism, we know that the tools required to build a fair livelihood and generate wealth are not equally available to all members of our community. As such, this fund is meant to be a concrete step towards remedying that injustice by expanding access to sales channels for BIPOC farmers and entrepreneurs.

Roots Rising understands that for some, the cost of getting a business off the ground plus the cost of vending at the market is too large of a burden. This fund aims to reduce that barrier to participation by waiving the vendor booth fee and providing additional financial support for business start-up costs. In that way the market will be more accessible, more equitable, and better reflective of our community.

The award will cover the cost of the market booth fee ($175- $500 value) and provide up to $500 to be used towards supplies, equipment, permits and/or business development expenses. A limited number of awards are available, and the maximum grant award is $1,000.

Applicants must commit to vending at the Pittsfield Farmers Market for a minimum of 6 dates throughout the season. Priority will be given to new applicants. Previous awardees are also encouraged to apply, with applications being reviewed after the first wave of new awards has been distributed.

The outdoor season of the Pittsfield Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 9am to 1pm, May 11 - October 12, 2024. It is located in The Common at 100 First Street in Pittsfield, MA.
