BACKGROUND:A major component of many careers -- both within and beyond the academy -- is mentoring trainees, yet graduate students and postdocs often don't have formal opportunities to develop mentoring expertise. Since mentoring profoundly affects the well-being of individuals and teams, and consequently, scientific productivity and success, Princeton's
McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning is offering a course on mentoring at Princeton this Spring, 2024.
COURSE DETAILS:We'll meet virtually via Zoom on 8 consecutive Tues. mornings from 10-11:00am, with the first meeting on 3/19 and the last on 5/7/24.
In our 60 minute sessions we'll learn and practice mentoring skills while also discussing various readings and videos. In addition, you are encouraged to meet in small(er) peer group "mentoring circles" several times in addition to our whole-group meetings to discuss your experiences applying new skills and concepts in your own work with mentees.
The time commitment is ~3-4 hours/week for the eight weeks (inclusive of our full-group meetings, smaller mentoring circle meetings, and your self-study).
INTERESTED, BUT NOT ABLE TO PARTICIPATE RIGHT NOW?If you are interested in participating at a later date (e.g. Summer or Fall 2024), please complete the survey, below, and we'll let you know when this course will be offered again. *Also - please note that the course is especially relevant and recommended for people who will be mentoring someone
now.
