Hams Needed to Support NAWS 5K Charity Event
The NAWS Run for Their Lives 5K run/walk event will be held in Mokena on June 20th, 2026, and organizers have requested assistance from the amateur radio community. This is a well-run community event that benefits a meaningful mission, and it also provides a great opportunity for hams to be visible and engaged in the communities we serve.

Amateur radio operators will monitor the course for spectator and participant safety, relay medical assistance requests, and provide other communications support. Whether you have experience working public service events or are looking to get involved for the first time, your help is both needed and appreciated.

Date/Time: June 20, 2026, 8:00 am (Race Start 9:00 am)
Location: Hickory Creek Preserve – Laporte Access Road

NAWS is a 501c3 No Kill Humane Society who has been serving the community of Mokena and the greater south suburbs of Chicago since 2007. In 18 years they have rescued over 10,000 animals from high kill shelters in order to give them a second chance at life.
