Zephyr Farm 2012 CSA Membership Registration
CSA Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a subscription program wherein subscribers sign up to become a “member” of the farm. When the harvest comes in, members receive a weekly share of vegetables that are fresh, hand-picked, and washed the day of delivery. A farm’s CSA program provides much needed capital to buy seeds, soil, and other necessities to start the season off running. Because no one can predict the weather and other forces of nature, members put their trust in the farmer that she will do all that is possible to provide a healthy and tasty amount of veggies during the season. Additionally if these uncontrollable forces cause a crop failure, the farmer will know that her livelihood is not in jeopardy.

THE FARMER Michele Kozloski has been farming for over 10 years, 9 of which have been in Rhode Island. She currently operates Zephyr Farm, located in Cranston, RI and is the creator of Besto Pesto, a small artisan pesto company. Zephyr Farm will be offering vegetable shares for the 2012 season along with farm fresh egg shares. Vegetables are grown without any synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.

THE SHARE The CSA will begin Tuesday June 19th and run for twenty weeks until October 30, 2012. We are offering full shares. If you feel that might be too much, team up with a friend and pick up on alternate weeks. The drop will be held on Almy St. on the West side of Providence on Tuesday evenings from 4-6:30 pm. A typical share will include enough veggies to feed 2-4 individuals. Keep in mind that shares are lighter in the spring—lots of greens—and heavier in August and September when tomatoes arrive along with the rest of summer’s bounty. Vegetables in your share will include family favorites along with some rare and heirloom varieties. Please check out zephyrfarmri.blogspot.com to see what members received last year.

OTHER OPTIONS We will also be offering egg shares. The chickens are raised in a moveable coop and have access to all the fresh air, sun, and grass that they desire. The eggs have superb flavor with deep orange yolks.
