Audition requirements
Play the version of the following exercises that you know best, on whichever instrument you would like to be considered. Snare*, tenors (quints), and bass will be provided:
- 8s
- Accent Tap
- Double Beat
- Double stroke roll (duple & triple base)
- Flam Accent
- Flam Tap
- A sight-reading exercise will be given to you at the audition.
- Optional: play any short (≤ 2:30) rudimental solo on snare or tenors that best demonstrates your current abilities.
*Which grip the snare line will ultimately play is to be determined. Snare drummers may audition playing matched and/or traditional grip, flat drum, or tilted drum, whichever you are most comfortable with.
You are strongly encouraged to bring your own sticks/mallets and practice pad to the audition. Otherwise, there will be a pair of Ralph Hardimon snare sticks and a pair of Innovative Percussion bass drum mallets in the audition room.

The UTD Drumline is a 1-credit class and meets on Mondays and Thursdays, 4:00–5:15. Members must enroll in “MUSI 3131.001 - Drumline.”
Enrollment is not optional.** You will be emailed a unique enrollment permission number within 24 hours of submitting this form. Returning students will be able to enroll themselves in Galaxy with their permission number. First-year and transfer students will need to give their permission number to their advisor to enroll.
**If you are blocked from enrolling in MUSI 3131.001 for any reason, send an email to drumline@utdallas.edu. There may be a simple solution.
