Abstract: Nowadays the large amount of data sets available from different, direct and indirect, measurement devices, allows us to improve the way we model and understand water resources. For this, it is necessary to not only know how to work with large data, but also to build coherent models that can either complement physics or build relationships between actions and consequences. Around the world, there have been many developments in this area, and as consequences, large data bases and modelling tools are available. To be able to research in this area it is important to have a clear knowledge on data management and analysis using large data sets and applying modern classification and regression tools such as Machine Learning.
