Through the Walk for Wisdom, students and school communities learn about South Sudan—the world’s newest and most fragile country—and the pressing need for education and peace there. They learn that children in many conflict countries, including South Sudan, walk 45 minutes or more to reach school and clean water. They also participate in service and fundraising projects that support education in South Sudan.
Participation in the Walk for Wisdom is open to all schools. Many schools choose to host a signature 3-mile walkathon as a fundraiser, but schools can make a difference in many ways including readathons, raffles, T-shirt design contests and more! Participating schools are challenged to raise a minimum $1,000 by May 1, 2018. Those that do are eligible for special prizes celebrating creativity, innovation, impact and generosity.
All Walk for Wisdom proceeds provide books and solar lights for three primary schools in Ruweng State and Jonglei State, South Sudan.
