The Urban Archeology Corps is an 8-week summer work program for Richmond Green Team youth age 14-18. It is collaboration between Richmond National Parks and Battlefields, Maggie L. Walker Historic Park, and the NPS Archeology Program. Funding comes from the NPS Youth Programs Office and the NPS Archeology Program, with support from Groundwork USA. The UAC program draws on archeology as a vehicle for a young people to learn about national parks and their surrounding communities, the diverse histories and resources that make these places special, and public service and employment in the National Park Service. In the process, participants practice civic engagement while earning hours towards noncompetitive hiring under the Public Lands Act authorities. Groundwork RVA’s Summer 2017 Urban Archeology Program will be held at Maggie L. Walker National Park, typically Monday-Friday from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Youth participants will be compensated according to attendance and lunches and GRTC transportation stipends will be provided. (Rate - $7.25)
There is also a 5 day camping trip at Shenandoah National Park!
