This award is important to recognize our fishermen/women, and to celebrate their role in our culture, society, economy, and future as a fishing province.

Examples of superb seamanship and bravery on the North Atlantic are endless, and grow with every trip to sea by every last fishing boat. So too are tales of great catches that come from great fishing skill, and fishing know-how.

The end goal is to once again ensure that our children grow up wanting to be fishermen/women, and that we, their parents, want it for them.

Rules and Guidelines
Nominations for fisherman/woman of the year will be accepted until 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2019.

Those nominated must live in Newfoundland Labrador.

Those nominated must represent excellence within an aspect of Newfoundland and Labrador’s commercial fishery, between January-December 2018.

Skills, determination, leadership, consideration for other harvesters, and adaptability to changes in today’s fishery are all important qualities to consider.

Anyone can nominate an inshore harvester. Harvesters can also nominate themselves.

The three judges for this award include: Merv Wiseman, an outspoken search and rescue advocate; Johanna Ryan Guy, a tireless advocate for vessel safety; and Ryan Cleary, President of FISH-NL.

Judges will review all nominations and choose a single harvester for the award. The winning harvester will be announced at the Jan. 24th, 2019 convention.
