Register for City of Water Day: In Your Neighborhood 2021
The New York-New Jersey Harbor & Estuary Program (HEP) and the Waterfront Alliance are excited to announce that this year's City of Water Day will take place on Saturday, July 10, 2021. We are excited to make 2021 the year of resilience and work with our partners in neighborhoods across the estuary to uplift work that advances equitable access to the waterfront and educates the next generation of climate leaders. This year, once again, we are coming together with our partners to raise awareness about the risk we all face from floods and rising seas, and champion a climate resilient shorelines and waterfront communities.
As we continue to live with COVID-19, the health and safety of our communities remain our most important goal. City of Water Day events this year will continue to ensure the safety of all participants by adhering to all applicable public health guidelines relating to COVID-19.
The climate is changing, and so must we. City of Water Day aims to educate and inspire action to meet this challenge. This year, the Art at the BlueLine exhibition in the Seaport District will feature multiple art installations by local artists to give visitors an opportunity to engage with art focused on climate, including coastal resilience, waterfront access, and/or environmental justice. Additionally, dozens of communities in New York and New Jersey will host their own City of Water Day In Your Neighborhood events that celebrate the importance of a resilient and equitable waterfront. Programming will include virtual events, as well as small group educational activities, appropriately distanced on-water activities, community climate art, and more.
Please use the following form to register as a participating partner in this region-wide event. Join hundreds of organizations in all five boroughs, Westchester and Rockland County, and New Jersey that have joined City of Water Day by signing up to host free safe or virtual community programs on and about local waterfronts.
In Your Neighborhood events are independently produced by the many wonderful, diverse civic organizations and public agencies that steward our waterfront and waterways. For all the organizations registering their July 10th In Your Neighborhood celebration, Waterfront Alliance and New York & New Jersey Harbor & Estuary Program (HEP) will provide a partner “toolkit,” which will include guidance on messaging and educational takeaways for your community participants. Participating organizations and their In Your Neighborhood programs will be listed on HEP’s website, and shared widely by HEP and Waterfront Alliance across social media platforms, through press releases, and more.
For a limited number of participating organizations, HEP can provide funding support of up to $1000. This year, support will be prioritized for nonprofit organizations whose In Your Neighborhood program focuses on educating the next generation of climate leaders, lifting environmental justice and higher-need communities, advancing equitable access to the waterfront and championing the resilient nature of our waterfront neighborhoods. To be considered for small grant support, with funds provided by EPA through the New York-New Jersey Harbor & Estuary Program and Hudson River Foundation, please register below to apply by May 31, 2021 and remember to note your request for funding in the space provided.
