Culturally responsive educators (CREs) understand their own cultural lensesand seek to understand their students as cultural beings. CREs utilize students’background knowledge, culturally relevant instructional materials, and pedagogyas a base for students’ learning and academic success. CREs understand thatearly childhood trauma (ECT) can impact children from all cultures andsocioeconomic backgrounds. CREs understand how trauma can interfere withlearning and they are equipped to implement responsive strategies to mitigatethat trauma.
