Featuring internationally-renowned 3D street artists Anat Ronen and Nate Baranowski and 2D artist Jennifer Chaparro, Chalk Howard Street is part of a long-term effort to promote Howard Street as a place "where you can be you," with creativity, global cuisine, and culture, situated between the lakefront and public transit.

We would like to fill Howard Street with art that is: -Entertaining and engaging-A novel experience that inspires conversation-Visually compelling-Accessible by a large demographic-Created during the duration of the festival (Artists can begin before the festival start time, but we would like at least 4 hours of art creation to occur during the festival hours.)-Suitable for family viewing and participation-Interactive
A committee will review all applications and select a small number of proposals. A stipend is available commensurate with experience.
ARTIST RESPONSIBILITIES:-Artists will submit artwork for prior approval at least two weeks before the event. -Artist will be provided with an 8x8 square pre-painted with black tempera. Artist should supply his or her own soft chalk pastels with which to create the art. If artist would like to supplement with other mediums, artist must obtain approval from the festival.-All preparation and set-up must occur Saturday morning and be completed before the festival begins at 11am. All clean-up of materials must be completed no later than midnight. The Artist will leave the area clean of debris, such as tape, signage, chalk, etc. -The Artist will bring materials to cover and secure the area in case of rain, within reasonable limits.
