WORLD LANGUAGE Selection for 2020-2021
Dear Families,

Last week during World Languages Week 8th grade student teachers introduced our 6th graders to the World Language offerings in Wayland; Latin, French, Spanish, Chinese. Most students will be ready to begin a World Language in 7th grade. Based on learning needs, some students will be ready to begin a World Language in 7th grade, while others in 8th and others still not until 9th grade.

As a family, with guidance from your child's teaching team, you will be making the decision for his/her/their middle school career. For students with IEPs this conversation should include input from the liaison. If your child will be starting a language next year, please indicate your child’s first and second language choices below.

Please know that this language choice is made for the duration of the student's middle school career in order to complete the novice level* and be ready for the intermediate level at the high school. (*Novice classes, Latin 1, French 1, Spanish 1, Chinese 1, at the HS are offered based on enrollment numbers each year. Though Spanish 1 tends to run every year at the high school, the others are only offered when there is enough interest. If you have any interest in learning Latin, French, or Chinese, starting your studies in middle school is the surest way to accomplish that goal.)

Submit this Form by Thursday, March 12th, 2020. Your child is guaranteed one of his/her/their top two choices. First choice preference will be given to those who make their selection by the March 12th deadline.
