To all the corporations & landlords involved in the displacement & gentrification of Little Tokyo:
We oppose the historic displacement and eviction of our community, the commercialization of our culture and gentrification of Little Tokyo. We believe in self-determination for the diverse members of Little Tokyo, which is the historic center of the Japanese American community.
We want to maintain and develop Little Tokyo in the interests of residents, workers, small business families, members of temples and churches, and those who visit and patronize Little Tokyo throughout the year — not in the interest of big corporations.
We call on all landlords and developers such as Tony Sperl, who is evicting Suehiro Cafe, and Mark Falcone of Continuum Partners, currently developing the 4th & Central Project, to respect Little Tokyo and meet and collaborate in good faith with our chosen representatives before implementing any projects.
Failure to meet our requests will result in a PR campaign against the company, up to and including a consumer community boycott of products and services associated with the offenders. To this end, we call on Tony Sperl and Mark Falcone to meet and negotiate in good faith with designated community groups in Little Tokyo before:
- Evicting or taking any other measures to displace tenants
- Seeking permits and licenses
- Allowing any new businesses to occupy their properties
