Creating the recycling system Hutt City deserves
People across our City tell me that our current recycling system isn’t up to scratch. Our kerbside green crates don’t provide the necessary capacity, and aren't suitable in our often windy environment. This must change.
I’m excited to announce that if elected as Mayor, I will introduce a modern two bin, wheelie bin, kerbside recycling system. One for glass and one for other recyclable materials.
I will not only provide this service to our residential households, but our rural communities as well.
As part of this change, I am also committing to provide free recycling services to every primary school and intermediate in Lower Hutt. This will be alongside funding increases to the Enviro-School program and other initiatives that focus on recycling, reusing, and very importantly; waste minimisation.
This is about our environment. This is about Council getting the basics right, and quite frankly, bringing Lower Hutt to a level that many Cities and Districts across New Zealand are already at.
