Federal regulations (8 C.F.R.§ Sec. 214.2(f)(5)(iii)) permit one vacation term each year. The annual vacation period for the Intensive English Language Program at Salem State University is during the summer semester. International students studying in the Intensive English Language Program at Salem State University are eligible for summer vacation during Summer Session 1 (May 21 - June 30), or Summer Session 2 (July 11-August 17) if they complete one full-time academic year before the summer vacation period and intend to register the following session. The Intensive English Language Program defines an academic year for language students as 21 consecutive weeks of full-time study (18+ clock hours per week).

Please note the following:

Language students are considered to be in status and can remain in United States during approved summer vacation if they intend to enroll during the next scheduled session. Students may choose to enroll part-time or not at all during the summer vacation.

Violation of any other terms and/or conditions of your visa status during summer vacation (except for full time study) may jeopardize your status.
