District 5 LGBTQ Advisory Board Application
Thank you for your interest in serving as the District 5 Representative on the Miami-Dade County LGBTQ Advisory Board. This board will help promote Miami-Dade County as a community where everyone, no matter their sexual orientation, can feel at home.

OPTIONAL: Applicants can send a copy of their resume with the subject "NAME, LGBTQ Advisory Applicant" to Rachel.Cohen@miamidade.gov. Submitting a resume is not required to be considered for the position.

The Board will provide, among other things, recommendations on policies to advance the social, economic, cultural, and political issues that impact LGBTQ visitors and residents in Miami-Dade County.

The board should exemplify the diversity of the Miami-Dade LGBTQ community, and should be racially and ethnically diverse and consist of representatives from our allies of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, transgender, and intersex communities. For further information about the LGBTQ Advisory Board and a list of its powers, duties, functions, and responsibilities, you may access a copy of the ordinance that created the board by clicking on this link: http://www.miamidade.gov/govaction/legistarfiles/MinMatters/Y2019/192155min.pdf

Although Commissioner Higgins, as the District 5 representative, encourages all interested and qualified persons to apply, she has made a commitment to appoint a representative of the Transgender community to serve on the LGBTQ Advisory Board to ensure that the LGBTQ community is fully represented. Without a full spectrum of representation on the board, there is no board.

Applicants should have a deep knowledge and involvement in the LGBTQ community. Policy and advocacy experience is preferred. Applicants must be able to commit adequate time to this position and be able to articulate a real vision for how Miami-Dade County can move forward in improving the quality of life for LGBTQ residents and visitors.

Applications will be open until November 20, 2019. The District 5 team will reach out to qualified applicants for an in-person interview. Please feel free to reach out to Rachel Cohen at rachel.cohen@miamidade.gov or (305) 375-5924 with any questions or comments.
