Four (4) applicants will be selected to participate in a 6-month development process, taking place from November 2018 through April 2019, including independent work, open rehearsals, group workshops and sharings, critical feedback sessions and production meetings, culminating in public performances May 6-19, 2019 at Phoenix Theater in Minneapolis. Applications will be reviewed by a committee comprised of past 20% Theatre Company artists, including many past Q-STAGE artists. Selections will be announced on or before October 15, 2018.
Applicants can be writers, performers, creators, directors, musicians, choreographers, performance-makers, etc., or a group of artists working together, and we are open to diverse topics and forms of performance. We encourage experimentation and the development of new work - including (but not limited to!) movement/dance, storytelling, spoken word, poetry, music, film/video projection, puppetry, drag, theater, performance art, and/or a combination of any of these. Performance works must be 35 minutes minimum, 60 minutes maximum. Applicant artists ARE allowed to submit more than one proposal as long as the proposals are for vastly different projects. Past Q-STAGE artists and full-time students are not eligible to apply.
Selected artists will receive a stipend of $1500, rehearsal space, mentorship, workshop & feedback opportunities with their cohort, production & design assistance, marketing, three public performances of their work, photo and video documentation, and much more!
HOW TO APPLY: Submit a completed application form (below), resume, and narrative proposal by Friday, August 31, 2018, at 11:59pm.
QUESTIONS?: Email firstname.lastname@example.org
A. Describe the work you are interested in presenting if selected for Q-STAGE. What themes/ideas will be explored in the work? What will be shared and why is it important to you? If known, what artistic formats would be featured in the work (i.e. movement, dance, video, music, storytelling, monologue, etc.)? What stage and technical needs are you anticipating at this time? What is your anticipated performance length? If you are applying as a group or as an artist who will require the involvement of other artists (as performers, for example), please describe the roles of the other artists that will be involved.
B. What is your specific interest in presenting new work in 20% Theatre Company’s Q-STAGE: New Works Series? What are your personal, artistic, collaborative, and/or career goals related to this proposal? Why/how do you feel the work you are proposing aligns with the mission of Q-STAGE? How do you feel being part of Q-STAGE will benefit your development as an emerging artist?
C. Who are you? Yes, we want to learn about your experience in artistic performance, but we also want to learn about you as a person, not just an artist. Take some space to tell us something you haven't told us yet.
