Hillsdale Drama Crew Positions
Stage Manager: Assists the Director in running the show. Takes blocking notes, manages Assistant Stage Managers, helps with lights and sound. Runs the tech aspects of a show.
Assistant Stage Managers: Help the Stage Manager ensure the show runs smoothly from backstage. In charge of managing one side of the stage and its respective stagehands, staying in the wings and cueing stagehands for set changes.
Light Board: Program light cues in the booth and make sure all lights work correctly. Spotlight operators will work in the catwalk and control spotlights on actors throughout the show.
Sound Board: Help with microphones for the actors, program sound effects/cues, and play sound effects when cued during the show. Also responsible for making sure audio setups work smoothly.
Props: Responsible for finding and/or creating props for actors in the show. Also includes creating and keeping prop tables organized, assisting with painting/building/fixing/modifying props as needed.
Stagehand: Responsible for moving set pieces on and offstage. Stays in the wings and listens to the Assistant Stage Managers’ cues when scene changes need to happen. Help scene transitions go quickly and smoothly.
Costumes: Design and create costumes for all actors in the show, including costume fitting, sewing, altering or adjusting as needed. Also assisting with quick changes.
Publicity: Help promote the show through social media and around school. Includes photoshoots, trailer/promotional videos, Instagram posts, and more.
Makeup: Design and implement makeup and hair looks for all actors. Help actors apply base makeup if necessary and other special makeup effects that may be needed (such as wrinkles or face paint). Plan out hairstyles for all actors and work with both wigs and actors’ hair.
