11. Physical Ability

We are happy to welcome volunteers of all physical abilities to the CWC. The center has an accessible street parking space right outside our door, is accessible by a wheel chair lift, and has a bathroom on the first floor. Lots of what our volunteers do can be accomplished within accessible spaces. Indicating your physical limits will not affect our consideration of your volunteer application! At the center, we emphasize self care and respecting your own boundaries. By being transparent and clear about your physical ability, you are letting us ensure we are able to provide you and all our volunteers a safe experience.

I can lift objects up to 50 pounds without injuring myself

I can carry objects up to 50 pounds for up to 50 yards and up a small flight of stairs without injuring myself.

I will be using the wheelchair lift to enter and leave the center.

I can walk from the basement to the top floor of a three story house up to two times during a shift.

I can walk up and down flights of stairs as needed throughout a shift.

I am comfortable clearly stating my personal physical limitations to other volunteers on shift with me so they can accommodate my needs.

I prefer to be discrete about my physical limitations.

13. How many hours a week would you like to commit to your internship? *

We require a minimum of 6 hours a week for an internship and to be considered for bi-weekly supervisions. We prefer 8-10 hours if possible.

14. What is your availability? (Best estimates if you don't know)

The center is open Monday - Friday 10:00am - 8:00pm and Saturdays 10:00am - 3:00pm. Internship shifts are usually 2-4 hours each shift. Evening shifts (from 5:00pm onward) all last until 8:00pm. Please indicate days of the week you’re available, and mornings, afternoons, or evenings for each of those days. (Evening shifts are usually 6pm-8pm)

15. In addition to drop-in and helpline staffing hours, indicate below if there are any special projects you may want to take part in.

Fundraising/Grant Writing: Help with writing thank you letters, record-keeping, event planning, researching donors and foundations, writing & editing grants, raising funds through social media, etc.

Community outreach and publicity: Help spread the word and increase visibility and attendance for Women’s Center activities through social media, press releases, graphic design, posting flyers and/or other communications.

House improvement: The center is located in a very old house. While endearing this also offers endless opportunities for cleaning, decluttering, organization, beautification, gardening, and small repairs.

Computers: Help to keep the Women’s Center computers in good working condition by performing routine check-ups, software updates, and other needed tasks. Help our members navigate the computers and offer tutoring in computer skills.

Data Analysis: An important piece of applying for grants is providing data on the center. Help with updating our data collection and analysis systems.

Licensed Professional: Donate time providing your professional skills as a licenced healthcare or mental healthcare worker, social worker, lawyer, etc to the women at the center.

Workshop or group facilitation: The center offers a wide range of programs each month that vary from support groups, to financial planning help, ESL exchanges, classes on sewing, beading, and self-care, and more

Other: We wholeheartedly support our volunteers taking initiative on projects we may not have thought of! What do you have in mind?
