Policies and Expectations
Please don't skim!
Communication:
- Our primary communication method will be a Discord server. Musicians are expected to direct their questions and concerns there. Announcements will be sent via Discord and via email, for clarity.
Accountability:
- Learn the music before the con. In Discord, we'll be checking for this. If you don't show evidence of satisfactory progress, we reserve the right to disallow you from rehearsing and/or performing with us at the convention, and to remove you from the MAGWest Orchestra Discord server.
- If you receive sheet music that is unsuitable for your instrument, or is beyond your ability level, *let us know*. We want to set up every performer for success.
- Strings: bowings will be assigned.
At the convention:
- Performers are expected to attend one 2-hour rehearsal at the convention, to be held on Friday, August 19th at 10:00am. Failure to attend this rehearsal may result in being disallowed from performing.
- Performers are expected to be present and ready for soundcheck on Saturday, August 20th in the late morning (exact time TBD).
- Performers are responsible for bringing their instrument(s), accessories, music, writing utensil, and music stand. Tablets with tablet stands and tablet pencils are permitted and encouraged.
- Non-disclosure: don't share sheet music outside of this performance. Return sheet music at the end of the performance for cataloguing and revision purposes.
- Per MAGWest 2022 convention COVID-19 policy, wind instrument players must purchase and bring a bell cover for their instrument in order to reduce aerosol spread, and vocalists must remain masked and maintain 6' of distance from anyone not in their party.
Musician Selection:
- Filling this form does not guarantee acceptance into the MAGWest Orchestra. Selected musicians will be contacted before the end of July. Please refrain from asking any MAGWest staff or VVGO staff about the status of your application.
