Thank you for your interest in participation in this Call for Evidence. The Runnymede Trust are compiling short written submissions based on the disproportionate impact of the environmental emergency on Black, Indigenous peoples and people of colour.
We will use the submissions to create a short written report to inform key policy decisions, and also invite participants to give oral evidence during parliamentary sessions.
Inquiry and Purpose
The parliamentary inquiry will investigate the links between global systemic racism and the environmental emergency, and endeavour to show why Black people, Indigenous Peoples and people of colour around the world are disproportionately facing the effects of the environmental emergency.
Aims:
To ensure more inclusive, intersectional and effective climate change policy in the UK by better understanding the structural causes and barriers which have led to the environmental emergency and its disproportionate effect on Black people, Indigenous Peoples and people of colour.
To give a space for environmental professionals, activists and leaders of colour from both the global North and the global South to speak and discuss their narratives and experiences of the environmental emergency with key policymakers.
To raise the political profile and public awareness of the historic and contemporary structural racism which has led to Black people, Indigenous Peoples and people of colour around the world disproportionately facing the effects of the environmental emergency.
Scope and Format
The APPG will put out a call for written evidence. Based on these submissions Runnymede will then hold a series of oral evidence sessions over 5 parliamentary hearings, at which the group will hear evidence from experts by experience, academics, practitioners and decision makers. This evidence will be collated and analysed by the Runnymede Trust as the Secretariat, informing a short report written with clear recommendations for Government and statutory agencies.
