Title: Finding Your Voice: Building Confidence in Using Your Voice in Public Settings
Description: This two-day interactive workshop will help students manage speaking anxiety and develop tools for clear, confident expression. Through practical strategies, supportive exercises, and guided reflection, participants will learn how to shift nervous energy into effective communication, empowering them to speak with greater ease in academic, professional, and everyday settings.
Bio of Dr. Ariel Seay-Howard:
Dr. Ariel Seay-Howard is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication who has experience supporting students in finding confidence in their voices and reducing public speaking anxiety. Her research explores how communities use speech, storytelling, and public memory sites to challenge dominant narratives about social experiences often forgotten. In the classroom and in workshops, she draws on these insights to empower students to engage audiences with clarity, presence, and purpose—transforming nervous energy into effective, confident communication.
