The NEC Symposium is made possible through a partnership between the NEC Society and Section of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Michigan, with support from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute® (PCORI®).

The NEC Symposium will convene multidisciplinary stakeholders to improve the understanding, prevention, and treatment of NEC, and drive patient-centered research. The NEC Symposium features a robust agenda, with world-renowned clinicians, scientists, and family-patient advocates. The Symposium will attract diverse stakeholders in the neonatal NEC community, including physicians, nurses, nonprofits and governmental agencies.

Submitted abstracts will be peer reviewed by NEC Society scientific advisory council members. Select abstracts will be featured in podium presentations.

Key Dates
Early submission is strongly encouraged.

The call for abstracts opens December 1, 2018. All submissions must be received by March 4, 2019. The NEC Society will notify authors by April 1, 2019.

Who should submit an abstract?
- Individuals/teams engaged in understanding the pathogenesis of NEC, improving the prevention and treatment of NEC, and/or driving patient-centered outcomes research regarding NEC
- Neonatal fellows and pediatric residents
- Surgical fellows and residents
- Nurses, pharmacists and dietitians
- Neonatal nurse practitioners and physician assistants
- Graduate students, medical students, post-docs, other scholars and researchers
Priority will be given to abstracts focused on the following aspects of neonatal NEC:
Animal models of NEC
Defining NEC
Early detection and prevention
Human milk
Increasing research funding and awareness
Innate immunity
NEC registry and biorepository
Parent engagement and empowerment
Patient-centered outcomes research
Patient-family centered care
Transfusion associated NEC
