Use this form to apply for either the Dance II or Dance III course for the 2020/21 school year.  This form must be completed prior to your registration appointment with your counselor.  Students that have not completed this form will not be placed in these courses.

(For students applying to Dance III, a video audition is only required for any dancer who has not participated in Dance II, Orchesis, or the JV or Varsity Dance Teams.)

Dance II: DANCE TECHNIQUE AND REPERTORY
Dance II: DANCE TECHNIQUE AND REPERTORY

Prerequisite: Dance I, one year of previous dance experience, and/or teacher placement
Credit: 0.5 / Semesters 1 and 2
Grades:  10, 11, 12

Dance II: DANCE TECHNIQUE AND REPERTORY is a semester long class for students with a minimum of one year of previous dance experience. The class will focus on the study of dance technique in a variety of dance styles including jazz, modern, hip hop, and ballet.  More complex and extensive dance repertory will be learned and performed in each of the dance styles. The students will continue to develop their artistic expression through expanded study of improvisation and dance composition strategies.  Class activities will feature the opportunity to apply dance knowledge through small group choreography assignments.  Dance II students will perform publicly in the Fall Semester Dance Demonstration performance. Weekly mind/body fitness activities will be practiced to support the dancer’s physical conditioning. Dance II may be repeated for a maximum of three semesters and is open to all sophomores, juniors and seniors. After completing three semesters of Dance II, the student must either receive teacher permission for placement in Dance III or register for another course in the PE curriculum.

Dance III: CHOREOGRAPHY, PRODUCTION AND PERFORMANCE

Credit: 1.0 / Full Year
Grades: 10*, 11, 12
*Sophomores with extensive dance experience may be placed in this course upon teacher recommendation

Dance III: CHOREOGRAPHY, PRODUCTION AND PERFORMANCE is a year long class for students with multiple years of previous dance experience and a strong interest in public performance and choreography. Students will study advanced dance technique and performance qualities in numerous dance forms such as jazz, modern, ballet, contemporary, hip hop, and cultural dance. The curriculum will focus on cultivating the dancer's unique artistic voice, and expressive options will be expanded and refined through the study of advanced dance improvisation, composition, and movement analysis. Students will work both independently and with others to produce and present dance choreography, showcasing this work once each semester. Performance in the Fall Dance Demonstration and Spring Orchesis Dance Concert will be required of all Dance III students. Weekly mind/body fitness activities will be practiced to support the dancer’s physical conditioning.  Dance III may be repeated for a maximum of two years and is open to juniors and seniors. Registration for this class will be permitted with teacher placement only.
