#FreedomforMasood
Masood Ahmed Janjua is the symbol of fight against enforced disappearance in Pakistan. Abducted and disappeared by state forces, he represents the exasperating human rights situation in Pakistan.

At least 5 persons have categorically testified of having seen Masood Janjua in secret detention. Year 2018 marks THIRTEEN years of his enforced disappearance. Where is he?, what is he facing?, what he knows about the world out there?; is not known. The family and friends of Masood, though under immense emotional stress, have been campaigning for his release for the last THIRTEEN years. Pakistan is facing highest number of enforced disappearance in the recent past. His wife Amina Janjua is leading a full fledged movement against this menace. Even courts find it difficult to provide relief. Atmosphere of oppression is suffocating.  Hidden forces are doing everything to prevent the star witness of Masood’s case from appearing in the court; to the extent that the witness has been stripped off his citizenship while abroad. Your action in this regard not only will help in tracing Masood janjua but thousands of others who are facing similar fate.

Letter to Prime Minsiter of Pakistan
Prime Minister of Pakistan
Prime Minister Secretariat,
Islamabad, Pakistan

Subject: Request to recover Masood Janjua

Dear Prime Minister,

I most earnestly request you to rescue Masood Janjua who has been enforced disappeared for the past THIRTEEN years. There has been a complete denial by the state authorities regarding Masood’s  whereabouts despite numerous sighting reports of his being detained by state forces.

THIRTEEN years ago, on 30th July 2005, Masood Janjua along with his friend Faisal Faraz left home but neither reached their destination nor returned. There have been no charges against Masood Janjua. Reasons for his enforced disappearances are unknown.  Masood’s family, initially in complete darkness, learned through other former detainees that Masood is detained somewhere in Islamabad.

Mr Prime Minister, enforced disappearance is a crime against humanity as declared by UNO as well as by the verdict of Supreme Court of Pakistan. Masood’s case of disappearance is known world over. It is being monitored by leading human rights organizations and UN bodies. A UN Working Group has established in its report existence of widespread complaints of missing persons in Pakistan. This evil practice is condemned around the globe. Countries practicing enforced disappearance are looked down upon by the civilised world. Failure to recover Masood Janjua is a major concern and cause of much disgrace for the country.

Amina Masood Janjua, wife of Masood Janjua, claims that you had personally promised with her in the past to rescue her husband once you come in power. But as of yet she has not seen any action taken by the government. The agony and despair of the family is beyond words.

It is also not understandable that despite numerous ordinances, laws and military courts introduced by respective governments, why Masood and other missing persons are not being surfaced.

According to precepts of leading religions as well as established ethical standards of the world, government of Pakistan is guilty of a criminal neglect. You being the head of the government, responsibility lies directly on your shoulder to provide justice to Masood and his family.

Masood’s life is under immense threat as his case has become emblematic because of his wife’s endless struggle for  thousands of missing persons of Pakistan. I urge you to take immediate steps to save his life and liberty.

your sincerely,
