Even with your best efforts to avoid them, you may encounter Black Bear.  Below are a few basic steps from "Bear Wise" you can take to stay safe if you encounter a Black Bear moving through "Bear Country".
Most bears are scared and stressed upon encountering humans and will just want to flee.  Some may become defensive or predatory which makes them more likely to attack.  The tips below from "Bear Wise" explain some of the warning signs that indicate the bear you have encountered is defensive or predatory.  It also gives instructions on how to deal with a predatory bear.
