This may seem obvious, but YOU MUST BE A CURRENT WESLEYAN STUDENT TO DESIGN FOR A SHOW.
BECOMING A DESIGNER
When shows submit their application to go up, they must already have a full design team so it's hard to become a designer for shows during the current semester. The best way to get on teams is to help out with smaller tech jobs like being a carpenter, electrician, SBO, or LBO, or assistant design a production! Networking is key.
ACTING OR DIRECTING
This form is clearly meant for designers, but we have resources for actors and directors too! Actors should check out our site (2ndstage.org) at the beginning of each semester to get audition info for the current season. Directors can submit show apps at certain points throughout the semester, and you can learn more info on how we pick shows at 2ndstage.org/show-apps.
Here are some notes about how Second Stage works:
- We do not favor people with more experience in theater when giving out recommendations.- Second Stage is a learning organization: this is a great place to design for the first time or be an assistant designer if you're uncomfortable taking full control.- If you're interested in a specific field of design but don't know how to get started, please feel free to reach out to the appropriate Second Stage staffer (2ndstage.org/staff). We're student helping other students out, and we want to get you involved in student theater at Wes!
