Our Mission

Despite lawful presence, asylum seekers, asylees, and resettled refugees experience many challenges in their path toward self-reliance. Without trusted support systems, these individuals and families struggle to establish
safe, stable, and self-sufficient lives.

AsylumWorks was created to educate, equip, and empower newcomers seeking safety to overcome health, employment, and legal barriers. Together, we are building a world where all people in need of protection can access the knowledge, skills, and support they need to thrive in their new communities. Direct client services are free and available to individuals and families living in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia, regardless of language or country of origin.

Alongside our current volunteer roles, we are urgently seeking Dari/Pashto and Haitian Creole speakers for all roles, with a focus on interpretation support. For our informational interviewers, we have a preference for professionals working in the IT industry.

Whether you’re assisting with career coaching, facilitating English conversation practice, or supporting job applications, your efforts make a lasting impact.

Our volunteers are compassionate, dependable, and prepared to create a welcoming environment for asylum seekers. Training and ongoing support are provided to ensure you feel confident and equipped in your role.

Please note that some volunteer positions are in higher demand than others. While we may not have an immediate role available for you, we will keep your application on file and reach out if an opportunity becomes available.
