Stranraer Water Sports Association - Water Sports Hub Development
Public Consultation Questionnaire - May 2021
Stranraer Watersports Association is a volunteer organisation with a number of board members and one paid executive officer. The team have carried out a feasibility study which, based on over 300 responses to our first survey, led to the development of a concept and hi-level business plan for running a watersports hub, with an “Active Beach”, Slipway enhancements with “dry feet” access, offshore landing stations and a full service building. The Water Sports Hub will be staffed with “leaders” who will be trained to make getting on the water easy, enjoyable and safe, while clubs will be accommodated in the centre to promote the individual activities and support members.
The first step for those, of all ages, new to watersports is simply to “get wet” by joining in various taster sessions and seeing what activities appeal most. You can then continue through the relaxed get wet approach, hiring equipment, maybe increasing your skills through RYA and other training courses, or go on and invest in the equipment that meets your needs.
Those already used to watersports can join the association and clubs of their choice and use club, centre or their own equipment to pursue the activities that appeal to them.
The watersports hub will also work closely with schools, colleges, associations and charities to provide educational, training and life changing opportunities along with developing training to create career confidence and employment opportunities.
SWSA is now developing a full business case and working towards a planning application. We are in discussions with some funding bodies and the business case will allow us to approach funders with more detail and confidence.
We have gained funding for the early stages of our “Get Wet” experiences and training and will be launching this in the summer.
Please help us build clearer picture of the local and business community’s interest and ambitions for our project by filling in the questionnaire below.
