PEAS Ambassadors Volunteer Program (Info & Sign up!)
Mission - PEAS cultivates a joyful connection with the rest of the natural world through outdoor learning and edible education.

PEAS’ signature outdoor education programs help schools take learning outside by partnering directly with teachers and providing cross-curricular academic programming in gardens and green spaces on campuses throughout the Austin area. PEAS is also increasing our depth of programming by bringing what grows in the garden to the kitchen.

Our goal is to build a team of ambassador volunteers that will be able to support our work at school campuses and our community farm both during and outside of school hours. Volunteers will have a variety of ways they can assist with our schools from garden and outdoor learning area revitalizations and maintenance, tabling at community events, and behind the scenes PEAS program support. Any ambassadors that are available to support during school hours will need to pass a background check prior to their work on campuses.

Benefits of becoming a PEAS ambassador:
- Occasional giveaways
- Free seeds
- Occasional free produce
- Invitations to and recognitions at PEAS Events
- A sense of community & our sincere gratitude!

Note: Volunteers may be asked to complete a background check for specific school-campus volunteer opportunities.  (Background checks normally cost ~$40.)

More info:
In order for PEAS to lead explorations outside on school campuses intentional spaces like wildlife habitats and rain gardens must be cultivated and maintained on an ongoing basis to provide Outdoor Learning Labs for students so they can understand their interconnectedness to the planet. In the past, PEAS has worked with school communities and corporate volunteers to assist with tending the nature features on campus.  Due to our small staff and prioritization of direct programming, our prior ability to tend these nature spaces had been intermittent and with mixed results. It has been a dream to create a campus based volunteer community to further our programming and reach.

Teachers have beyond full time jobs and cannot be expected to maintain the outdoor learning environments at their schools. The objective of the PEAS’ Ambassadors Volunteer Program is to recruit and train parent and neighborhood volunteers to assist our staff with the care of campus outdoor spaces and lead community event tables and activities. By having community based volunteers, we will be able to provide more and better support to the schools we work with.
