Our Mission: As Michiganders, we value liberty, equality, and community safety for everyone. These core principles should serve as the foundation for our state’s criminal legal system. Yet, our current cash bail system undermines these values by jailing people based on the amount of money in their wallet, thereby driving racial and class disparities with no improvement to public safety. One day in jail pretrial can mean the loss of homes, jobs, and even children, while a person is still legally innocent. We know that we can achieve true public safety by investing in housing, education, mental health, and employment.
