The Library's 8th Annual Teen Poetry Contest is open to teens in grades 6 to 12,
who reside in Essex County in Massachusetts. For 2018 we are including the opportunity to enter a story (flash fiction) that is 300 words or less. The Contest begins January 2018, and ends at midnight on April 1, 2018.
Each winning entrant receives a certificate. Cash prize winning categories are:
Best Entry Grades 6-8; Best Entry Grades 9-12; 2nd Place Grades 6-8; 2nd Place Grades 9-12; Library Director's Choice.
In addition, four Honorable mentions will receive a certificate.

Open to teens in grades 6 to 12, who are
residents of Essex County in Massachusetts.
Poem or story entries must be original work.
Flash fiction (story) must be 300 words or less.
Maximum of 3 entries per author may be entered.
THEME: outer space -or- unexplored territory
Poems and stories must incorporate one of the above themes or clearly have an associative metaphor such as: foreign, cosmic, unknown, remote, alien, etc.. Judges will deduct points from entries that do not incorporate one of the themes.
Each poem or story must have a title.
All poems or stories must be submitted by midnight April 1, 2018.
This form must be filled out for EACH entry submitted.

Contest winners and honorable mentions will be announced at the
Poetry/Story Reception on Thursday, April 12, 2018, 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
You must be present at the Reception to win.
Please do not submit a poem if you will not be able to attend the reception.
Your poem will be disqualified if you are not present at the reception.
The author of each winning entry must read or recite their poem/story aloud at the Reception.
Winning poems will be published on the Library's Informed Teens blog and in local newspaper(s).
