REACT IMPRO is a 10-day impro learning experience centred in spontaneity, creativity, narrative, and theatre creation. Workshops focus on improvisation technique, story and scene development, relationship, physical presence, mask work, awareness, risk taking, and embracing failure with emphasis on student’s individual needs.
The teachers are Steve Jarand, Patti Stiles and Shawn Kinley, 3 internationally respected professional player/teachers and possibly the world’s most travelled improvisers. Students will have opportunities to work with all 3. Sessions will primarily be in English. Participants will be encouraged to work in their own language for some exercises and performance. (And Steve has a working knowledge of Spanish, French, German and English).
There are some performance opportunities for those interested, as well as extra community performance collaborations.
With REACT you can expect stimulating and inspiring work in an environment that will challenge and support you, guided by honest feedback and fuelled by a playful spirit.
Who is REACT?
Patti, Steve, and Shawn developed their core improvisation ideas with Keith Johnstone at the Loose Moose Theatre Company, working directly with him for over 40 years. They’ve refined and furthered their theories through countless workshops with improvisers from all over the world. REACT 2025 marks the first time these three will teach together in the same location.
