We invite you to nominate a New Fairfield teacher to be considered for our 2024-2025 Teacher of the Year.  This honor serves to recognize an outstanding educator who exemplifies the excellence we observe daily in our schools.  Nominees must have at least five years of teaching experience, with three in the New Fairfield Public Schools.  Please find below a listing of the selection criteria that we will use in selecting the Teacher of the Year. This may be helpful for you to use during the nominating process.

Selection Criteria

• The nominee must be a full-time, certified, tenured teacher, including School Guidance Counselors, Social Workers, Psychologists and Speech and Language Pathologists.
• Inspires enthusiasm for learning and academic excellence 
• Challenges all students 
• Expects students to take responsibility for their own learning
• Demonstrates mastery of subject matter 
• Has the respect of students, colleagues, administration, and parents
• Communicates well
• Pursues personal and professional development 
• Contributes to curriculum and/or program development for the school or district 
• Contributes to the school community beyond the classroom
• Demonstrates effective teaching techniques, flexibility of style, innovation, and creativity 
• Contributes to the community outside of the school environment
